Canoe Carrying Yoke Plans
Step 10: hook the back of the solo canoe portage yoke around the back of the seat as shown in the picture above. slide a bungee cord around the seat to hold it on when you pick up the canoe. portage as required. purchase yoke plans. the plans for the solo canoe yoke come as a pdf.. These carrying yokes are a must if your canoeing involves any portaging. they are our own custom design (well travelled over the years!) and deeply dished so the weight of the canoe rides along the shoulder then down the hips through to the ground, as opposed to a thwart where the weight rests on the upper part of your spine.. Here is the canoe yoke all finished but not yet installed. i realized i didn’t take a pic of the finished yoke installed on the canoe. i’ll take one tomorrow. hopefully i will have my maiden voyage tomorrow or the next day and get to try out carrying the canoe with my newly installed yoke.. Note: if you plan on doing a lot of 2-person overhead carrying, consider outfitting your canoe with front and rear carrying yokes. carrying yokes are special, ergonomically curved thwarts designed to make carrying canoes easier on your shoulders..
